Holocaust Speakers

Many individuals contact the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education asking for survivors to interview or speak to their classrooms and groups. Unfortunately, MCHE is no longer able to honor these requests as there are too few speakers available to meet the heavy demand.

In planning for this situation, and being mindful of the need for a personal perspective on this history, MCHE has developed programs to help teachers and community groups address this history in a factual and appropriate way.

Witnesses to the Holocaust Archive

The MCHE Witnesses to the Holocaust Archive features the testimonies of dozens of local survivors and other eyewitnesses to the Holocaust. This collection is available in multiple formats, including the following:

  • unedited video testimonies available for viewing in the MCHE Resource Center ranging from 45 minutes to 3 hours in length
  • condensed video testimonies available for free loan from the MCHE Resource Center and appropriate for classroom or community use
  • unedited audio testimonies available for use in the MCHE Resource Center

For a list of survivors and their experiences, please click here.

Condensed video testimonies may be checked out of the MCHE Resource Center Monday-Friday from 8:30-5:00 and Wednesdays until 7:00 when school is in session. If you would like to have a testimony mailed to you, please contact Dana at 913-327-8192 or assist@mchekc.org. Shipping charges apply.

Appropriate for 7-12th grade and adult audiences.

Second Generations Speakers Bureau

Members of the Second Generation Speakers Bureau share their parents' memories of the Holocaust as well as their own perspectives on growing up as the children of survivors. Most sessions include video testimony from the survivor parent. Please click here for complete information.

Appropriate for 7-12th grade and adult audiences.

History of the Holocaust

This one hour Holocaust overview offers a concise chronological history of the Holocaust which is supplemented by a powerpoint of historical images. The session is conducted by members of the Isak Federman Holocaust Teaching Cadre. All technology must be supplied and operated by the host.

Appropriate for adult audiences. Contact Jessica Rockhold at 913-327-8195 or schools@mchekc.org with questions or to schedule a presentation.

Mosaic of Memories

Mosaic of Memories is an interactive slide program that focuses on local Kansas City survivors by incorporating their photographs taken in the year 2000, along with maps and archival images, into a geographic overview of the Holocaust.

Faces of local Holocaust survivors and refugees provide a springboard for volunteer Messengers of Memory to describe prewar European Jewish culture and the personal experiences of immigrants who came to call Kansas City home. Messengers of Memory are trained to engage the audience in discussions of the events being presented in the program.

Appropriate for 6th grade through adult audiences of 20-50 people.
