DEADLY MEDICINE SPEAKER SERIES
MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS AND NAZI POLICY Dr. Heberer will explore the role of physicians in the planning and implementation of Nazi “racial hygiene” policies and programs, such as compulsory sterilization and the clandestine "euthanasia" program .
This panel will discuss the impact of Nazi policy and programs on the “ordinary Germans,” community institutions, and individuals and groups designated “enemies of the regime.”
This film examines Nazi propaganda films aimed at justifying "euthanasia" policies of the 1930s and 1940s. A moderated discussion will follow the film viewing.
This panel will explore the involvement of the universities, the clergy, the military, and artists and musicians in advancing Nazi policy and programs.
Mr. Zeskind will examine the origins, modes of operation, and collaborations, of white supremacist, neo-Nazi, Holocaust-denier, and antisemitic groups in America and their present and future implications.
Dr. Meinecke will discuss the dangers of medicine in the service of political ideals – specifically, the role of government in determining “national health,” the ethical justifications used by physicians to further these policies, and the contemporary implications of these positions.
Dr. Reicher will explore the American military’s proceedings against German physicians and administrators for their participation in the T-4 “euthanasia” program, medical experimentation on human beings, and the systematic murder of those the Nazis deemed "life unworthy of life."
